TEXT
After lots of playing around with what bits to use, this is what ive got at the moment:

I’ve cut it down quite a lot because this is the right amount of text to work with in the space – before, it was too cluttered and both the text and images would be lost. I’ve also pulled a few bits and bobs from other ads. Still not sure about the first line, it needs to entice people in.

I managed to set up a website address which is quite amazing. “http://watchvslippj082gvoyeur748player2embedded.nfshost.com/” I couldn’t use any symbols or anything like that (because, as I learnt last night, aren’t actually domain names or hostnames but URL’s. I don’t have enough time to set up a website and then add stuff to it in order to create a longer URL address. Also, as is probably quite apparent, I don’t really know what I’m talking about when it comes to websites.) but I think this still has the look I wanted. I haven’t decided whether to do this idea or not but in case I do, I need the right address because it will be on the final image.
I’ve also been developing the drawings. I need to complete the plan of the final image by next Sunday (this includes getting it into the computer). I think I’m on track as long as I sort out the type and start on the final thing tonight (instead of separate drawings as I have been doing - putting them all together).

This drawing seemed to have the desired affect when I showed it to people. After about 15 seconds of looking at it they suddenly saw the figures. However, this might be because the text isn’t in a clear arrangement. I really don’t know whether to present the text in an ordered structure, or make it more, for want of a better word, ‘organic’.

Sam Winston
The lecture last night given by Sam Winston was one of the best I’ve been to! His work was so much like the sort of thing I want to do and also relevant to this current project.. Language really interests me and I can see this as a running theme in a lot of my work. Came home really enthused by his talk!
Screen Printing Woo Hoo!
I’ve managed to organise for someone to screen print it for me (I would liked to have learnt how to do this myself but I don’t have time to d this and everything else at this stage). We discussed what materials would be best for screen-printing onto. He suggested MDF because it’s smooth and wont damage the screen but I would still need to sand it down and prime it. When I have finished the artwork, I’m going to have another meeting with him to discuss how and when we are going to do it. The biggest he can screen print is A0 so this will be the size I will do (maybe different proportions).

Had a meeting with a friend in Brighton yesterday. He’s an artist and a poet – he’s just about to publish a book of erotic poems. We chatted about a few things that I hadn’t thought about yet – particularly regarding the words I am going to use.
He reminded me that the opening line has to really draw people in. because there’s going to be quite a lot of text to read, peoples attention is bound to waver towards the end, so I need to keep the interest there for people to reach the end.
I told him about the web address’s I’ve been collecting. At first I had thought these would be two different ideas and it would be too complicated to put them together. We thought about maybe putting an address at the end for people to visit instead of a phone number. I thought it was a funny image of someone having to write all the way up their arm in order to write the address down. I then thought about whether people would actually try and visit the website – even if its just to check whether its real or not. I could make a web page of that address with additional material on it. But if I was to put effort into doing that, I would want to make it more likely for people to want to visit it – not just in the off-chance that they might – maybe having cards? Pens? I’m looking into setting up a webpage anyway because if I’m going to do that, I’m going to have to get it sorted before I start on the final drawing (because the website would have to be on it correctly).
I mentioned my idea of adding gold leafing to the image. He’d done this before and said that it was really fiddly but do-able. It would affect the choice of material I would use – canvas would be too bumpy, maybe some sort of hard wood.
After taking about how I am going to execute the final drawing, I decided that it might be best to get the final drawing screen printed onto the final material – this would give me more time with planning out the drawing – which is where the beauty and detail are going to come from.

A Bit of a Change Again.....
Yes, it’s a bit late in the day to be constantly changing my mind about what I’m doing, but after days of what can only be described as blind panic, I’ve settled on an idea that I’m happy with and am GOING to stick with!
Going back to an idea that I had a while ago but for some reason discarded – a typographic poster made up from drawing where the text is highly embellished and ornate. I wanted to concentrate more on the language used in porn films and ads – which seems to follow a certain protocol. They are obviously very crude and to-the-point, my idea is to mask the underlying meaning of the text by embellishing the words with beautiful drawings (I’m thinking of quite ornate drawings, natural things - can’t explain myself properly, I’ll draw and find some examples of what I mean).
I feel much happier with this idea as I think it’s saying exactly what I want to be saying, and it is accomplishable in the time I’ve got left.

Refinement
That idea had a fundamental problem with it – how would I make it so I wasn’t simply producing a crap and trivial video (because surely that’s all a porn film without sex is)? Directly recreating the porn scenes isn’t saying enough.
Going back to my original idea – disguising the porn as something of a higher cultural value than itself – filming the scenes in a studio setting. These are just some notes:
Video – audio, add another dimension, suggests its no ordinary photo shoot
Maybe show cameras and lights? (allude to backstage porn shoot like earlier ideas)
